Since the times of the apostles, many believers left Jesus when they confronted temptations and trials in their lives. Judas is the best example of a backsliding Christian who was chosen by the Lord.
The Bible says that if we die without accepting Jesus we will suffer in hell but those backsliding Christians will suffer most due to their apostasy. They will see God’s wrath upon their lives on the day of judgment.
We can see how God brought suffering into the lives of Jews who left him and followed idols in their times. The Lord was merciful when they returned back to him. The scripture tells us that our God is a jealous God and he wants us to stick to him. He knows that if we leave him we will be destroyed so we must follow him till our last breath.
